How to turn a weaving sample into something useful!
I show you how to make a "berlingo" cushion which serves as a phone holder, I find it very practical in the morning when I have breakfast to place my phone on its cushion!
For this you will need a weave approximately 16 cm wide x 40 cm long.
There is no need to block your weave for this making as there is no need to cut into it, you can simply knot the warp threads to block them and cut them to be 2cm long.
If you don't have a sewing machine you can just sew it by hand.
The necessary supplies are therefore: your weaving and padding, either synthetic or natural, packaged in bulk or in a tablecloth (which is the case for me for this project).
Step 1: Fold the weave right sides together and sew both sides (at the edge threads and the beginning of the patterns)
Step 2: Once both sides are sewn, turn the work over to the right side (like when you turn a sock right side out), insert padding at the bottom to form a bead of approximately 2 cm, make a seam on the entire width, which will enclose the padding and maintain the bead shape.
Step 3: Insert padding to form the rest of the cushion (if you have padding in tablecloth, tear the tablecloth to transform it into loose padding) and tuck the fringed edges of the weaving inside about 1 cm of weaving in addition to the fringes.
Step 4: Close the cushion by joining the edges, be careful to place the side seams face to face, this is what will give the “Berlingo” shape to the cushion.
Step 5: Sew the two edges together by hand or machine.
Finished ! The stuffing can be manipulated by pinching and stretching the fibers inside to position it correctly.
You can also make this little cushion with scraps like the one I made with a lirette weave and a small piece of velvet.
This little cushion is a good idea for an original and unique gift!
